Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. 1 Corinthians 13:4-8
The summer of 2011, “The Summer of LOVE,” is going to be an incredible time at The Grove. God is going to blow us away! (Before you read any further … Close the book and pray to God. Ask Him to use this journal to take your relationship with Him deeper and to take your relationship with others deeper.)
This devotional is the product of over 30 people who attend Maple Grove. And understand—with contributions from that many different and unique people (I was going to say odd, but that doesn’t sound so good, does it?), this should be an exciting time. As you read, you will see that the theme for this book is LOVE. We will be looking at Paul’s great definition of love in 1 Corinthians 13—and many other passages from both the Old Testament and the New Testament—so that we will get a well-rounded and complete picture of this thing called love.
- Each day, grab this journal, a pen, and your Bible; then find a quiet place.
- Before you begin … close your eyes, slow down, and pray. Ask God to speak to you.
(Please don’t skip this step)
- As you read, underline the words and phrases that strike you. After you have read the devotion, make a few notes on the journal page in the back.
- Always look for the one thing that God wants you to carry with you throughout the day.
- Remember to go slowly. You are mining for true treasure, not digging for mere gold.
- Don’t Forget…To look over the section in the back of the book about sharing your faith. There is no greater act of love than bringing someone to Christ!
